Dear Wildlife Supporter, A Rare Fox is Threatened by a Military Spending Bill
A provision within a Department of Defense spending bill could potentially destroy a decade-long recovery effort for the critically endangered Channel Island fox. This unique domestic cat-sized fox is found nowhere else in the world but California's Channel Islands National Park. Let Congress know you oppose this harmful legislation before it's too late. Send your message now... Forward this message to your family, friends, and neighbors...
| The only habitat for the critically endangered Channel Island fox could soon be under military occupation if U.S. Representative Duncan Hunter (R-CA) gets his way. The critically endangered Channel Island fox is counting on your help, so please send your message now. Duncan has added an amendment to a military spending bill that would turn over California's Channel Islands National Park over to the military. Ironically, the U.S. Navy didn't request the action, and the National Park Service does not support the request. The Channel Islands National Park is home of the endangered Channel Island fox. Currently, there are less than 50 wild foxes in this area, down from over 1,500. The 10-year recovery effort for the fox has saved it from extinction so far, but Duncan's proposed amendment could change that. The amendment -- a part of the Department of Defense Authorization Bill -- could be passed as soon as today, so action is needed right now. Please send a message to the House and Senate Armed Services Committee members to let them know you oppose this outrageous misuse of a National Park. Once again, thanks for standing up for our vanishing wildlife.
